“Reflect a bit”

At the end of an email I received before Thanksgiving, someone wrote, “Enjoy a few days away from the action and reflect a bit!”  I thought that was clever, but with family and guests at the house, today was the first opportunity I had to take his advice.

Since the Holiday came and went in a flash, all I could think about while reflecting is how time is utterly fleeting.  I think it’s great to reflect a bit, but I prefer to be busy.  When I was twelve years old, I had a paper route, and in that mindless job I spent a lot of time thinking about things – primarily my future.  I decided back then that I wanted to have a job where I used my head.  Reflecting is a reminder exercise of two things:  What I have to be thankful for, and what I haven’t yet accomplished.

So after reflecting a bit, I am thankful for my family and friends, and that so far, my successes outnumber my failures.  Actions speak louder than words, and since time is short, it’s better to reflect just a bit and get busy living a life that makes a difference.

Time to get back to work!
