Leadership & Entrepreneurship in Ireland – Day 8

Relaxing day in Donegal today playing tourist.

Before the student departed for a weekend off on Friday, I asked each team to come up with reasons why you’d do business in Ireland.  Here’s the collective list:

  1. Nice people!  It’s all about relationships here in Ireland.
  2. English spoken – no language barrier (except the slang!).
  3. Economic growth opportunities.  Ireland is on the rebound.
  4. Ireland is a gateway to continental Europe.
  5. Scalability  and “trialability.”  As a small country of 4,000,000 people, it’s a great test market for exports and pilot projects.
  6. Stable climate – not known for natural disasters, and no nuclear power facilities.
  7. Favorable tax climate.
  8. Favorable employer laws and high employee satisfaction ratings.
  9. Educated and talented work force.
  10. Guinness.

We’ve been slowly edging toward a move to the west of Ireland since our visit in ’05. This list makes it even more desirable.

    Especially #10.

Joel – the most amazing part of the trip was that not a single person didn’t show up, and we had >35 speakers in two weeks!
