First day I have had to use an umbrella – if I could have since the winds were blustering in excess of 40 miles per hour!
There was a women’s “mini-marathon” (10K) today with 37,000 runners expected – not sure if all turned out!
We met in the morning for updates from each of the student teams on their start-up company projects. The teams have made a lot of progress, and I remain confident that our clients’ expectations will be exceeded!
The students described their projects, the approach and expected outcomes. In addition, they talked about the challenges (project, external & internal), strategies to hit the finish line, and what they’ve learned thus far about leadership, entrepreneurship and themselves.
I came across an article on success, and thought the take-aways were particularly poignant given the student comments on what they’ve learned thus far:
- Stay busy (STAMINA)
- Just say no (FOCUS)
- Know what you are (KNOW THYSELF)
- Build networks (COLLABORATE)
- Create good luck (DISCIPLINE)
- Have grit (DETERMINATION)
- Make awesome mistakes (RESILIENCY)
- Find mentors (ASK)
Jan, catch yerself on with the umbrella !!
The turbulent Irish weather, including winds is what builds perseverance and character. Lol.
Jeanette – I saw this quote in my dinner menu last evening – love it!
“Being Irish, he had an abiding sense of tragedy, which sustained him through temporary periods of joy.”
-William Butler Yeats
