Ireland – Day 5 – Do vs. Be

At the Northern Ireland Science Park with Norman Apsley today, and received the grand tour of the Titanic dock with accompanying physics-challenge questions!

IMG_3093Successful entrepreneur Colm McGoldrick shared his story of overcoming numerous business challenges, and how he’s redefined business success as personal triumph.

Gary Hamilton was the CEO at Omiino and successfully exited.  He’s currently working on a new project, and shared invaluable insights of what worked and what didn’t.

For me, I hope the lesson for the students is that they have to define success before they start pursuing it.  It could be what they do (and achieve), or it could be who they become.  It goes back to Socrates’ famous quote – “Know thyself.”

IMG_2652Another quote we heard today was by Robert Frost, “Two roads diverged in a wood and I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”

It seems we’re all in search of wisdom and a maxim that will best define a moral, ethical, and guiding compass for the direction of our life.  I would say (as I did in my book): DECISIONS DETERMINE DESTINY.  I think you’ve got to keep making decisions while adjusting, which is a balance of motion and meditation.
